Liturgical Prayers to St. Joseph

Troparion to St. Joseph of Optina

Ever show thy care for us, O wondrous Joseph, who holdest sway not in Egypt, but in the hearts of all the Orthodox.  For, having laid up stores of grace divine throughout thy saintly life against the spiritual famine of these latter days, thou dost nourish us as with the bread of angels and the nectar of the saints.  Wherefore, O boast of Optina and glory of Russia, disdain not the fervent entreaties of those who in thanksgiving honor thy holy memory with faith.

Kontakion to St. Joseph of Optina

Ever afire with the flame of love divine, the most blessed Joseph offered wise counsel unto all who came to him; for the holy Ambrose, that angel in the flesh, perceived in him the spark of the grace of God, wherewith the hearts of poor sinners might be lighted, and warmed and comforted.  Wherefore, in thanksgiving for the consolation which are continually poured forth upon us through his intercessions, we cry out without ceasing: Wondrous is God in His saints!

Prayers to all of the Optina Elders

Venerable Fathers of Optina, Troparion, Tone I —

Abiding in unceasing prayer,/ and embracing the wicked as well as the good with love,/ O venerable elders of Optina,/ ye served God and your neighbors,/ and through vigils, tears and. fasting/ received the gift of divers miracles./ Glory to Him Who hath given us such mediators!/ Glory to Him Who hath glorified you!// Glory to God Who is wondrous in His saints!

Kontakion, in Tone VIII "To thee, the champion leader..."—

Having withdrawn from this vain work and discovered a treasure through your pure life,/ ye have not abandoned your care for sinners in this world;/ but, as guides for the lost, deliver us from the vanity of this world,// that we may say: Rejoice, O divinely wise elders!
